Minimizing the Appearance of Soil
Several procedures can help to slow carpet soiling rate. Walk-off mats at entrances and junctions between carpet and hard floors can greatly reduced tracked-in soil. Types of mats include
- Bound rugs made from the same fabric as the carpet.
- Special rugs sold or leased for specifically for soil absorption.
- Hair or manila fiber mats.
- Rubber or plastic mats.
Carpet cleaning consists of a few common-sense rules:
- Sweep and/or vacuum all areas weekly, daily, or several times a day, depending on traffic.
- Promptly clean up spills, spots, and smudges.
- Clean heavy-traffic areas with "dry powder" or foam.
